April 2026 Board Letter from Volunteer Coordinator Nicole

April always feels like a season of movement for Nevada County Pride. As the days get longer and spring begins to take hold, we also begin gearing up for some of the events that bring our community together year after year. None of these gatherings happen without the time, care, and energy of volunteers.

Volunteering is truly the heart of Nevada County Pride. From helping set up tables, greeting guests, and organizing activities, to supporting behind-the-scenes logistics, every volunteer makes a real difference. The sense of belonging and connection that people experience at our events is built by community members showing up for one another. 

This year, we have many opportunities to get involved. Our Pride Family Fest returns on June 28th, and we will also be participating in the Grass Valley Night Markets and Nevada City Hot Nights throughout the summer. Our Queer Movie Nights continue to be a welcoming space for gathering, conversation, and shared storytelling. Each of these events relies on volunteers to help create the welcoming and inclusive spaces that Nevada County Pride is known for.

This month, we are also holding our community close as we mourn the unexpected loss of our dear friend, volunteer, and board member Drew Rust. Drew gave so much of his time and heart to this organization and to our broader community. His presence, generosity, and dedication will be deeply missed. The best way we can honor Drew is by continuing the work he cared about so much—building spaces where LGBTQ+ people and allies can gather, celebrate, and support one another. We will keep you informed of any celebrations of Drew’s life.
