Nevada County Pride Support Groups to be Paused in September
After thoughtful discussion and careful consideration, Nevada County Pride has decided to temporarily discontinue its volunteer-led support groups, effective September 2025. As you may recall, these groups were restarted in spring 2024 after being shut down when the PFLAG chapter closed.
Participation in the groups, designed to offer community, conversation, and mutual support, has steadily declined in recent months. Attendance has been minimal or, at times, nonexistent. Some view this as a positive sign that community networks are strong enough without formal support groups. We want to take this "pause" to reassess how these groups can better serve the community.
The key volunteers have agreed that it’s time to bring this chapter of programming to a close and determine whether there are needs these groups are not meeting that can be addressed in the future. Nevada County Pride deeply appreciates the dedication of those who have volunteered their time and energy to create a welcoming space for others, and to John Paul for leading this program.
While the support groups will no longer be offered, Nevada County Pride remains committed to fostering connection, resilience, and advocacy within the LGBTQ+ community. Other events and programs will continue throughout the year, and we welcome your participation and ideas.
